Ambient's Dreamie offers many of the conveniences of a smartphone-connected device — highly customizable alarm schedules, a library of soundscapes and noise masks, Bluetooth so you can connect earbuds and podcasts (soon). But it is phone-free every step of the way, with all controls and features built-in so you don't end up getting sucked into a doomscroll while you're trying to wind down. It also has a light ring for ambient lighting modes and sunrise wakeups. This spring, it's expected to start providing sleep insights as well for users who opt-in, using its microphone and motion sensors to get a reading on their nightly habits.

This is great if your whole application is written in WebAssembly. However, most WebAssembly usage is part of a “hybrid application” which also contains JavaScript. We also want to simplify this use case. The web platform shouldn’t be split into “silos” that can’t interact with each other. Thankfully, WebAssembly Components also address this by supporting cross-language interoperability.
None of this is wrong. These guarantees matter in the browser where streams cross security boundaries, where cancellation semantics need to be airtight, where you do not control both ends of a pipe. But on the server, when you are piping React Server Components through three transforms at 1KB chunks, the cost adds up.
